These are really easy to make and healthier with only 4 base ingredients!

Personalise this any way you like by getting creative with the ingredients to make the 'nest'. We used puffed buckwheat but try anything you like!

'Nest' ideas:

  • Any puffed grains (buckwheat, rice, quinoa, amaranth etc) Nut-free
  • Shredded or dessiccated coconut Nut-free, Paleo, Gluten free
  • Flaked almonds Paleo, Gluten free
  • Cornflakes or any other flakes/cereals (such as bran flakes, buckwheat flakes or shredded wheat) Nut-free

Makes 8 medium sized nests.

  • 1.

    Melt the coconut oil in a heat proof bowl over a saucepan (bain marie).

  • 2.

    Once melted, add the maple syrup and cacao powder and mix/whisk thoroughly.

  • 3.

    Remove from the heat and mix in the puffed grains (or filling of your choice) in a large bowl. Note: the chocolate mixture won't cover the filling properly yet as it is too thin a liquid, but don't worry it will thicken up as it sets in the fridge).

  • 4.

    After about 15-20 minutes in the fridge, stir the mixture more to coat all of the filling ingredients. If it is still a little thin, just pop it back in the fridge for another 5-10 minutes until it is more set.

  • 5.

    Once the mixture is all combined thoroughly, use two spoons and/or your hands to make the nests. Add any eggs you would like on top and put back in the fridge to fully set the nests.
