The porcini mushrooms which means "piglets" in Italian, belong to the boletus family and their latin name is Boletus edulis. Due to their strong nutty flavour, this is an incredibly popular gourmet mushroom. They are prized in France, where they are called Ceps (cèpes). In the UK, the common name is The Penny Bun on account of the round cap.
This mushroom reportedly has a high protein content, which makes them a great meat substitute in vegetarian dishes. Dried porcini mushrooms are delicious and add a strong flavour to pasta, rices, soups and sauces.
