About Organic Alfalfa Seeds

Organic alfalfa seeds are 100% organic and highly nutritious - perfect for enhancing a healthy diet. Alfalfa seeds, also known as Lucerne, Purple Medick and Trefoil are great for sprouting beginners as they are easy to plant and tend to sprout within 7-10 days, at which point they are ready to be washed and used to top healthy meals such as salads.

Organic alfalfa seeds are inexpensive and have a long shelf life prior to sprouting after which sprouted alfalfa can be refrigerated for 2-3 days.

Alfalfa sprouts are packed full of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, vitamin K and calcium - all of which are essential for the daily intake of nutrients. They are low in calories and can add the finishing touch to a meal.

If you are wondering how to sprout your own alfalfa seeds, try the following step by step instructions:

  1. Sprinkle alfalfa seeds sparingly at the bottom of a container or mason jar (about a tablespoon of seeds)
  2. Pour 2 inches of water into jar
  3. Cover with a cheesecloth or sprouting lid and leave to soak for 8-12 hours overnight
  4. Drain the water through the cheesecloth and refill with fresh water to rinse again, drain completely
  5. Place jar in a dark, dry location
  6. Be sure to rinse alfalfa seeds/sprouts daily (every 8-12 hours)  to rehydrate and continue the sprouting process, this should be repeated every 3-5 days
  7. Once they have fully sprouted (about 1-2 inch long) place in direct sunlight to activate the enzymes that make alfalfa so healthy for our diet
  8. Wash thoroughly before use and top your favourite salad or open sandwich for a nutritious addition to a healthy meal.
